Service: Historical Indexes

For several years, the Friends of the Archives of Dumfries and Galloway have been working closely with the Archivist to transcribe, index and explain each of the seven kinds of historical records listed below which are amongst the many collections held in Dumfries and Galloway Libraries, Information and Archives.

1. The 1851 Census Returns for Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire (incomplete);

2. Dumfries Kirk Session and Presbytery Minutes 1687 to 1795;

3. Mouswald Kirk Session 1640 to 1659;

4. Dumfries Jail Books and Bail Bond Registers 1714 to 1810;

5. Dumfries Town Chamberlains’ Accounts 1793 to 1801;

6. Dumfries Dean of Guild Plans 1892 to 1974;

7. The Shipping Registers for Dumfries 1824 to 1904, Kirkcudbright 1824 to 1841, Stranraer 1824 to 1908 and Wigtown 1836 to 1908.
