British Pipe Band Championships

Annan

Saturday 26 June 2010

Annan will host the British Pipe Band Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The first of these championships will be held on Saturday 26 June 2010.

A community based working group, supported and assisted by Dumfries and Galloway Council, has attracted the championships to Annan, where they were last held nearly 20 years ago.

It’s expected that around 8,000 people will attend the championship each year. Councillor Ian Carruthers, chairman of the local Pipe Band Championship planning group, said, “It’s a major achievement to have attracted these high profile championships. Now, we’re all working together to ensure success in delivering first class events and maximum economic impact for Annan.”

On a recent site inspection, Ian Embleton, Chief Executive of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, said, “The facilities here are absolutely fantastic. Our main concern was to make sure that we have a good area for the competition and to accommodate upwards of 100 coaches. I’m happy that we’ve managed that and we’re just looking forward to the big competition.”

The British Pipe Band Championships will take place in Annan on Saturday 26 June 2010. They will take place at Annan Academy playing fields DG12 6AP.
