Dumfries and Galloway Council
Dumfries and Galloway Council is Scotland's third largest local
authority covering 2,380 square miles and serving a population of over 147,000.

The Council has six directorates:

- Office of the Chief Executive (including Area Management)
- Planning and Environment Services

The Council has adopted a Corporate Plan for 2003 - 2007 which
highlights the main things we want to achieve and we will use it to help us
decide where to target our resources. The vision is to make Dumfries and
Galloway the best place in Scotland to live, learn, work, visit and grow.
Key priorities over the next four years are to:
- alleviate poverty
- improve services for vulnerable and older people, especially people with
disabilities
- provide a cleaner, greener, safer environment
- work for sustainable economic regeneration
- provide opportunities for lifelong learning
- improve road maintenance
