Langholm

Langholm or ‘the muckle toon’ is the first place of any significant size that you will pass through on the A7 after crossing the border. The town with its narrow streets is split into two parts with the river Esk running through the middle. Although part of Dumfries and Galloway, Langholm is similar in style to that of other border towns such as Hawick. Out of various industrial fortunes the woollen industry is the one that has remained to date in the town.
