Community Planning in Dumfries and Galloway

Community Planning Logo

Welcome to the website for Community Planning in Dumfries and Galloway. Find out how this effective way of working together improves local services and quality of life, and how you can be part of it.

Community Planning brings together all the major public, third and public sector agencies in our area, working in partnership with each other and with local communities to deliver better services for the people of Dumfries and Galloway.

The Community Plan provides the framework for this kind of joint working. It is based on a vision shared by all the partner organisations. They want to see vibrant and challenging communities where everyone can play a part in making a better future.  Our Communications Strategy and Action Plan ensure we tell people about this work.

Community Planning is at the centre of the agencies’ work in making policy and delivering services. A Strategic Partnership oversees and champions the process supported by an Executive Group, Central working groups and forums and partnerships cover different aspects of Community Planning, and Community Planning at Local Level form the direct link with communities.  The Operating Protocol and Service Level Agreement defines how the arrangements work in practice.

The major agencies share an enthusiasm and commitment to have better services and making the area a better place to live, work and visit. Dumfries and Galloway has a strong tradition of civic pride and active communities. All these factors help Community Planning to succeed here.

The most important part of the process is listening to and communicating with local groups and individuals. Community Planning helps you to get involved in decisions about services, to make sure they meet the individual needs of each area.
