Literature News June Open Stage at Rifft Valley Jazz Café Calling all poets and songwriters! Open Stage returns to the Rifft Valley Jazz Café in Dumfries on Wednesday 25th of June for an evening of music, poetry performances and free tapas. Dumfries & Galloway Arts Association (DGAA) would like to invite local songwriters and poets to get up on stage and perform. As well as an Open Mic there will be some fantastic guest spots to spur things on. This month’s Open Stage will have guest performances from well known Galloway poet Mary Smith and up and coming performance poet and musician Damo. Mary Smith is based in Castle Douglas. Her poems have been widely published in a variety of magazines, pamphlets and anthologies. She is the author of Before The Taliban: Living with War, Hoping for Peace, an insightful portrayal of the daily lives of Afghan women. She has just finished a collaborative project with printmaker Silvana McLean called "Voices from Glentrool and Merrick" exploring the people and landscape of Merrick and Glentrool. Damo is a dynamic performance poet and musician from Edinburgh. He is the creative mind behind Alibi, the musical produced by Edinburgh-based Gumba productions, and is just about to headline the Jock Stock music festival in Dumfries. Hosting the event will be talented local musician Nicola Black. Make sure you get there early – registration for all those who wish to perform will take place between 7pm & 7:30pm on the night! Entry on the door is £3 – and don’t forget the free tapas! Next "Open Mic" -July 30th |
